We have a 10 ft piece of USB cable,
This is the kind of thing that you'd normally just throw in a box
somewhere as a spare wire, or that you have underneath your desk connecting up 2 devices.
With a long wire like this, it's very easy for it to end up getting tangled inside a box and becoming a big mess.
So let's take a look at an easy way to store a wire like this, so that it won't get tangled.
First of all, let's take our wire and make sure there aren't any tangles in it at the moment.
All right, and we're going to start by grabbing 2 ends
we'll hold them together like so, so that we can easily find where the middle piece of the wire--
sort of keep moving along--
until we've found the end.
Now what we're going to do is we're going to make a little loop,
like so. So we have this loop.
Flip the loop over,
and take the wire,
so it goes across the loop,
and pull it through.
So, now we have this situation here.
By taking this loop,
we're now going to take the long end of the wire,
we're going to push it through the loop,
until we get another loop.
And then repeat.
Take the wire, push it through the loop, repeat.
Take the wire, through the loop, and let's just keep going like this.
All right, when we come to the end of the wire,
we're going to take the last 2 pieces,
push them through the loop,
and now you have a nice little braid way to store your little USB wire instead
of having it be a big mess. So you can have this
underneath your desk or you can throw this in with a box of wires
and not have to worry about it getting all tangled.
If you want to connect two things behind your computer with a wire like this, if this isn't quite long enough,
you can back the wire up a step,
push it through once,
and lock it up like that. So now
you have this much space
to use as connectors.
And if you want to undo the whole thing,
back up the loop once,
and just start pulling.
And we're back to the beginning.
