Hi I'm Tim Gipson and I'm going to talk to
you about green energy saving light bulbs.
Now in this case what we're talking about
are what we call compact fluorescents. This
is probably one of the greatest things to
come along as far as illumination in a long
time. We have several options when we look
at compact fluorescents depending on the type
of application you are trying to achieve but
as we look at this the important thing to
think about when you look at energy savings
is the amount of illumination you can get
with the amount of wattage. Now typical incandescent
bulbs will give you a certain amount of lumens
and that is the amount of light it produces
with the wattage so say for a typical 60 watt
light bulb you may get 900 or 1000 lumens
so that is the amount of light that it will
actually cast out and put out in a room. Now
when we look at these compact fluorescents,
this is a 60 watt light bulb but it only utilizes
14 watts so that means for a fraction of the
energy you can get the same amount of light
out of this and these are available in 60
watt and we have got some here some larger
ones here that are 100 watt light bulbs and
these 100 ones only utilize 26 watts so it
is a fraction, about a fourth of the energy
consumption to get the same amount of lighting.
Now these are also available in this so we
have got a globe so we can get some different
looks and even here you can see on this band
saw I have got this par lamp and these are
even available in high wattages where you
can use them on exterior applications such
as in your eves so you can get really bright
light but for a fraction of the cost. Now
the other benefit of these green lights is
your typical light bulb, incandescent light
bulb may last anywhere from a few hundred
hours so 700 hours to maybe a high efficiency
bulb of maybe about 1500 hours but with these
a lot of these are guaranteed for a certain
amount of time so in this one this actually
has a five year bulb so if you keep your receipts
and you actually document when these are put
in then the life of these are rated in this
particular one at 8,000 hours so the compact
fluorescents they not only save you a lot
of energy for the same amount of light but
also they last a lot longer. I'm Tim Gipson
and that is some tips on fluorescent lighting.
